My Community is a welcoming and safe place to meet other people living with HIV across the UK. You can share stories, worries and concerns as well as celebrate successes.

My Community is part of a wider network of services and resources available across the country.

  • Share personal experiences of living with HIV, from talking about medication to telling others about your diagnosis.  
  • Ask questions and seek advice from other members about living with HIV.
  • Access support from other people living with HIV and connect with a community, helping you feel less alone.
  • Get reliable and up-to-date information about HIV including diagnosis, treatments and managing multiple health conditions.
  • Promote and sign up to events and opportunities across the UK.

Living with HIV is what unites My Community, but members connect on a much broader range of interests.

The platform is moderated by a team of trained volunteers based throughout the UK and supported by staff at Terrence Higgins Trust.

How can I join My Community?

My Community is available via a web browser or via the Mighty Networks app downloaded to your smartphone. Once installed, the mobile app appears as a discreet tile, to ensure privacy.

You don’t have to use your real name or have a profile picture if you don’t want to, and you only need to share what you are comfortable with. 

Once you have joined My Community, you will find activity feeds with posts, videos and links, live chat, personal profiles and dedicated spaces for different topics and themes. You will find open discussion on a range of topics related to living with HIV.

Who is My Community for?

My Community is available to anyone in the UK living with HIV. Our members are from diverse backgrounds and have varied experience and expertise in navigating living with HIV.

Maybe you’ve just received a new diagnosis, or you’ve been living with HIV for many years and have some questions around your health. Perhaps you are trying to navigate your relationships, or want to celebrate a success. Wherever you are in your journey with HIV, you will be welcome.

What can I find out about?

Health and diagnosis

Find out what you need to know when you first receive your diagnosis, and seek advice about telling people you are living with HIV. Discuss treatment options and side effects and find out about U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable). If you are managing multiple health conditions or navigating parenting, pregnancy, sex, and dating, connect with others to hear their experiences.

Wellbeing and lifestyle

Discover ways to manage your wellbeing and cultivate self-care, find suggestions such as nature, talking therapy or mindfulness, and share what tips and tricks you have found useful. Discuss experiences with addiction, recovery and mental health. Connect with others about hobbies, interests, holiday ideas, and travel tips or through our film and book clubs.

My Community is dedicated to improving the lives of people living with HIV, helping everyone to live well and feel supported.

Events and opportunities

Share, and sign up to, online and in-person meetings, events and groups around the UK. You can also participate in training sessions and workshops designed to build skills and knowledge.

Groups and services

We also host a variety of peer support groups and services to support people living with HIV, including: 

  • Work and Skills, for personal development.
  • Before 96, primarily for people who were diagnosed before or around 1996.
  • Common Bond, our online space for women living with HIV.
  • Be+, a group for all people living with HIV.
  • Tafod+, our online group for people living with HIV in Wales.
  • Men United, our in-person group in Glasgow, for gay, bi, and men who have sex with men, living with HIV.

Privacy and security

Privacy and confidentiality are important to us and our users.

  • My Community is hosted by Mighty Networks which is GDPR compliant. This means your data is stored securely. We do not pass on or sell your personal data to third parties and data and communications are encrypted.
  • We have a location function to help users connect with people geographically close to them. The location is not exact, and you don’t have to share yours if you don’t want to.
  • If people find us, they must request to join, and answer questions before being approved. We send unique invite links to people we know.
  • Different community spaces will have different access settings to ensure members’ privacy and safety.
